LNP expulsion decision due for Brisbane City councillor
A Brisbane City Councillor is expected to find out today if she will be expelled or suspended from the Liberal National Party (LNP).
Councillor for Tennyson Ward Nicole Johnston has been accused of disloyalty and breach of confidentiality.
In November she angered the council administration by crossing the floor to vote against a bus depot in her ward.
It prompted a question from Council Opposition Leader Shayne Sutton at last night's Council meeting.
"Lord Mayor tomorrow there is a move to expel a Liberal National Party Councillor for the first time ever," she said.
"Why are you kicking Councillor Johnston out of her party simply because she stood up for her local residents?"
Lord Mayor Campbell Newman brushed off the question.
"Madam Chairman, I have previously been asked questions about these matters and I'm not about to talk about internal LNP matters," he said.
"If Councillor Sutton wants to ask that question in the public domain maybe she should take it to the President of the LNP Mr Bruce McIver."

Looks like my former mates in the Queensland Liberal party aka the LNP and especially Campbell Newman has gone after Liberal Party Councillor Nicole Johnston for disloyalty and breach of Party confidentiality. Apparently she voted against a depot in her ward and Newman has used his leverage with the LNP big wigs to punish the so called "renegade" Brisbane councillor!
These same antics went on in the old Qld Liberal Party and now apparently it's still going on in the new confused LNP. I guess the motto "Always get your pound of flesh!", is alive and well in the LNP! I thought this nonsense stopped when Geoff Greene received his marching orders in 2008, but I guess I was wrong!
This is a sad state of affairs and all it does is undermine the Party and prevents good people from getting involved in politics!
