"Indonesian authorities are bracing for a huge influx of boat people, anticipated as many as 10,000 asylum seekers are waiting in Malaysia to transit through the archipelago and onto Australia."

Cairns loses out on $450 Million Defense Contract! Thank you Jim Turmour and Anna Bligh?

Cairns local ship builder NQEA has lost out on a $450 Million government contract to build the hull blocks for three Australian Air Warfare Destroyers. The ABC On-Line reports today that the:

"Yesterday, Victorian company BAE systems Australia Defence and the Newcastle-based Forgacs Group were named as the successful tenderers for the $450-million contract.

"The Cairns Chamber of Commerce says it is very disappointing NQEA lost the contract.

Chamber president Jeremy Blockey says the contract had been expected to create about 250 jobs in the far north.

"It's something that the organisation as a commercial enterprise needs to look at, as well as the State Government, who were called up to assist through the process," he said.

"I understand that they had something on the table - presumably whatever they had to offer wasn't enough to get NQEA over the line."

This loss of potentially 250 local area jobs is a big hit to future employment in the far north!

And we can thank the local member and I do mean member, Jim "Jimbo" Turnour and the Premiere Anna Bligh for dropping the ball here and because of their lack of experience & intelligence allowed a Victorian company snatch away our contract. Also noted that the four State Socialist Labor MP's silence is deafening and just shows their indifference to the needs of the far north!

Finally a politician in Australia with clout has stood up to the government charade regarding climate change!

Nokia and Siemens are helping to suppress Iranian freedom? Is Australia next?

According to Gizmodo and WSJ, Nokia and Siemens provided the technical know how and expertise that has allowed the Iranian government to control and monitor the Internet in Iran.

Gizmodo said:

"Luckily for the government, Iran’s networks are rigged for suppression, courtesy of Nokia and Siemens."

"The core of the regime’s online efforts is a process called deep packet inspection, which essentially scans nearly all Internet traffic for offending material and can give authorities the ability to block the offending communications or, more importantly, identify where they came from. As you can imagine, this is quite a terrifying prospect for protesters, journalists and dissidents."

Today the headline in the Cairns Post "Rates up 8%," just happens that the real story of betrayal sits on page 2, "$466m hospital work at risk without $15b plan." The smoke screen by the State Government goes out and they make sure that the rate hike is the main story in Cairns. But we know better the real story is the massive betrayal by this band of lying Socialist Labor scum led by the pirate Anna Bligh!

What did this band of lying Socialist scum do with the money from the sale of Cairns Airport? Guest what they spent it! With no regard for their commitment to the people of Cairns and the Far North they just spent it and made up some lame excuse that it will come back if they can sell some other State assets.

And the usual bunch of Socialist Labor losers I suppose are all hiding in Brisbane. Because if they show up here I will lead the lynch mob myself! So Desley, Jason, Steve and Curtis we need to hear your voices in protest of what the pirate Bligh has done or by your silence we will know you were complicit and condone this betrayal!

On Monday, the State Government made the surprise announcement it was selling Cairns Airport to fund a $540 million revamp of Cairns Base Hospital and to buy land on the city's southside to build a new hospital in the long term, writes Member for Cairns, Desley Boyle.

This week the Bligh State Government has made three very big and far-reaching decisions for the future of Cairns – the sale of the airport, the funding for a major new ward block on the Esplanade site and the search to find a site for a new hospital in the future.

The Health Services Plan released recently showed the pressure the hospital is under and highlighted the need to act now to keep pace with service demands while also planning for the longer-term future.

What will happen now is that planning for a new major building – Block D – will start straight away.

The parking station on the present hospital site (the ugliest building in Cairns, in my opinion) will have to be knocked down and parking will be relocated to the other side of Lake St.

This will give us room to build on the existing site. In the meantime the full expansion of the Emergency Department can proceed and will be completed in 2009.

The search for a new site for a Health Precinct south of the city has already begun. In the first instance this will house community health facilities.

Apart from being the site for the new hospital, it also is an opportunity to co-locate associated health facilities and maybe even a campus for the JCU Medical School and nursing and other health professional training.

How much will all this cost? Enormous amounts of money!

The present estimate just for the new ward block and work on the present site is nearly $500 million dollars. And we need money for the new site and to get health services going there.

That’s the number one reason I support the decision to sell the Cairns International Airport.

The money raised by the sale will not go into consolidated revenue – it will stay in Cairns.

What is not spent in the next few years will be clearly allocated in the Future Fund to Cairns and our region.

There are some who criticised linking the sale of the airport with the funding of the hospital and health services. I absolutely disagree. On the contrary I insisted that this connection was made very clear!

Nonetheless selling the airport was still a hard decision, at least for me. Through the 20 years of my involvement in public life I had been a strong supporter of public ownership.

I had even been lucky enough to serve a stint as a board member of the Cairns Port Authority in the early ’90s.

Aside from getting the money for the hospital, however, there was another reason I changed my mind about this.

As the Minister for Tourism and Regional Development I had seen up close the substantial benefits that have come from the privatisation of Brisbane, Gold Coast and Townsville airports. I want those benefits for Cairns too.

And I agree with the Premier’s very to-the-point statement that core business for the State Government is delivering hospital and health services; core business is not running airports.

One of the concerns that has been raised is what will happen to the funding that has been provided by the CPA for tourism promotion and marketing to TTNQ each year.

I have spoken to Rob Giason and others about this and also to the Treasurer. It is important not only that the money is assured but also that uncertainty for the tourism industry is minimised. More news on this soon.

It would be true to say that it is the people of Cairns who made this happen.

Whether through The Cairns Post campaign, through COUCH fundraising activities, through phone calls and discussions with me and the other local members, you made it clear that you would not settle for second best when it came to the hospital.

You sent the message loud and clear and we listened.

I am very proud of the passion shown by the people of Cairns.

Cairns is one of the most special places in the world to live – people are migrating here in record numbers and who can blame them?

I am confident that the privatisation of the airport will boost tourism and bring new money to the region and that business and industry will flourish.

And I am so happy now that I know the people of Cairns and the region will have the hospital and health services they need and deserve.

This is most certainly a week that I will always remember.

Yesterday I met with the Climate Change Minister Penny Wong and the country’s chief scientist Professor Penny Sackket here in Canberra.

I asked the Minister and her team of experts to explain why global temperatures have cooled over the last 10 years while carbon dioxide emissions have increased.

The Minister’s team of experts failed to answer the question directly in the meeting and instead insisted on changing the goal posts and rephrasing the question.

Until now the IPCC has only measured global warming according to air temperature, but yesterday, for the first time, the government introduced the notion of ocean temperatures.

This is something which hasn’t been bought up in any discussions I have had with the government until now. So I will look at the merits of measuring ocean temperatures and will go through any answers I get to my questions from Minister Wong.

However, as I am yet to receive them in writing, I can’t make a decision on whether I agree or disagree that man-made carbon dioxide emissions are the main driver of global warming.

I hope that at the end of this process the science can be cleared up as this is such an important decision for the Australian people. If an ETS was introduced it could ultimately cost thousands of jobs and drive the prices of groceries and electricity up.

QUESTION 1.

Is it the case that CO2 increased by 5% since 1998 whilst global temperature cooled over the same period (see Fig. 1)?

If so, why did the temperature not increase; and how can human emissions be to blame for dangerous levels of warming?

QUESTION 2.

Is it the case that the rate and magnitude of warming between 1979 and 1998 (the late 20th century phase of global warming) was not unusual in either rate or magnitude as compared with warmings that have occurred earlier in the Earth’s history (Fig. 2a, 2b)?

If the warming was not unusual, why is it perceived to have been caused by human CO2 emissions; and, in any event, why is warming a problem if the Earth has experienced similar warmings in the past?

QUESTION 3.

Is it the case that all GCM computer models projected a steady increase in temperature for the period 1990-2008, whereas in fact there were only 8 years of warming were followed by 10 years of stasis and cooling. (Fig. 3)?

If so, why is it assumed that long-term climate projections by the same models are suitable as a basis for public policy making?

This is a typical government ploy when someone asks questions regarding the lack of science, they defer and as always fail to answer the question, but claim the person or persons asking the questions are Climate Change or Global Warming deniers!

When will this government realise that they are beating a dead horse and Climate Change and Global Warming is just a myth?

Apparently in yesterday's Australian, Christine Kerr wrote, that Climate Change Minister Penny Wong has decided to attack the coalition for not really being committed to ETS and instead of truthfully answering questions of the lack of science presented to the Senate, the government just goes on the offensive and Sen. Wong is very offensive!

"Western Australian Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash questioning the extent of the role of human activity in climate change."

"Senator Cash rejected a finding that the balance of scientific evidence presented to a Senate committee showed human activity was responsible for climate change in a dissenting report released yesterday."

"I do not believe that the same depth of analysis was given to those scientists and other experts who do not agree with this view," she said.

Why every time someone questions the lack of science and the need for ETS does the government go on attack dog status? Instead of answering the questions that the ETS has no scientific creditability whatsoever!

Jimbo Turnour Moving? To Canberra Like Sen. McLucas?

In the Weekend Post MP Jim "Jimbo" Turnour I saw his ad that he is moving from his Mulgrave Road Office at the AAMI Building to Grafton Street in the CBD. Is it to be closer to all of his Socialist Labor mates on Grafton Street? Or is it to move to a area were it's much harder for constituents to park? We will never know, but like most of Labor this move is essentially a good hiding place.

Anyway I thought Jimbo was representing Canberra not the Far North! Maybe the permanent move should have been to Canberra like his mate Jan McLucas?

Kuwaiti Mum Free? Hope she learned to keep her mouth shut?

If you remember back in April I wrote about the genius mum Nasrah Al Shamery a former Kuwaiti national who had immigrated to Australia. At the Kuwaiti airport this genius decided to insult the Emir of Kuwait in front of an airport official and was jailed. I said at the time, "As a former Kuwaiti National she really should have known better. This is not a good idea at any time." At the time she was in dire health straits with diabetes, heart, hearing, breathing and and back problems. Kind of allot of health problems for a 44 year old ? Apparently she did survive her abundance of health problems. Maybe she should have considered her health issues before opening her big mouth to a Kuwaiti official?

Well after the Australian government spending all sorts of money helping this women, apparently she is now being deported and she should be arriving in Australia this weekend!

Some interesting quotes from the family by the ABC On-Line:

"I understand she is in a wheelchair right now and she is suffering...a few pains but you know the doesn't matter as long as we got her back, " said her son Ahmad!

"Ahmad has vowed never to go back to Kuwait"

That's a good idea Ahmad and maybe you and your whole family should do the same?

I hope this the last time we hear about this dizzy family and it will be interesting to see if the pay their enormous legal bills.

RACQ asks Feds for Upgarde of Bruce Hiway - Cairns to Cardwell?

The RACQ the motoring organisation here in Queensland that's supposed to look out for the welfare of the motoring public has finally spoken out according to Bree Dwyer of the ABC On-Line.

I have previously written about the need for a all weather highway "Flooding closes Bruce Hiway near Ingham" and "Comrad Turnour Gives Up". It has always been self-evident that the Far North needs an all weather highway, but unfortunately the Member for Leichardt Jim "Michael Jordan" Turnour doesn't support the all weather highway concept and said, "You will never stop the road going under in these events". You will note he said "NEVER", well Jimbo never is a very long time and it's too bad that you don't have the ticker to drive this issue! But you and Krudd are wasting billions of dollars on other crazy projects around Australia, and the ETS joke the "tax we have to have"!

As far as I'm concerned the RACQ is a useless organisation and doesn't have the staying power or the will to drive an all weather highway to reality! And Jim Turnour is well just Jim, a useless and toothless representative of Canberra in Cairns!

Cairns CEO Noel Briggs Resigned Today @ 4 PM

According to a press release that I have just received today, Cairns Regional Council CEO Noel Briggs has resigned. Mayor Schier said that, "Mr. Briggs would leave council immediately."

After that joke of press conference last week in regards to the "Cash for Comment" investigation report, it was only a matter of time until Briggs resigned.

Well this week is turning out better than I thought. If it wasn't for Dick Smith bailing out Bob Brown it would be almost perfect! Now if only John Mackenzie would resign it would be a perfect world.

Dick Smith to bail out Bob Brown? My day is ruined!

ABC radio at 4 PM today declared that Dick Smith founder of Dick Smith Electronics has pledged to help bailout potential bankrupt Sen. Bob Brown of the Greens Party. the AAP story reported,

"Entrepreneur Dick Smith has offered his support to Australian Greens leader Bob Brown over a legal bill the senator says could bankrupt him and expel him from the Senate. Senator Brown owes Forestry Tasmania $240,000 after a failed legal bid to stop logging in the Wielangta forest in Tasmania's south-east. Dick Smith rang me last night... he didn't make any specific commitment but he wanted the number of my lawyers," Dr Brown told ABC Radio on Tuesday."

Well yesterday was a great day, now today is ending badly. This news about Dick Smith potentially helping bailout Bob Brown is just nauseating news and excuse me while I puke! What's wrong with Dick Smith, he seemed to have lost the plot supporting dirt bags like Brown? Brown is plan poison for business, helping him is helping to destroy business in Australia. I say let the bastard (Brown) hang and rot, why would anyone in there right mind throw him a lifeline?

Warwick McKibbin, Economist and Reserve Board member has told the ABC On-Line that, "the Government's emission trading scheme is driven by politics than credible economics."

Another crack in the ETS and more and more top thinkers are scuttling the Socialist Labor Governments nonsense of an unneeded emission trading scheme based on no open debate on Global Warming with the Australian community!

Bob Brown is facing bankruptcy because he cannot afford to pay the legal fees of $240,000 after losing a federal court case to stop logging in the Wielangta Forest in south-east Tasmania.

Apparently he faces loss of his Senate seat as a bankrupt! That is just too, too bad! NOT!!

"Senator Brown says he is now campaigning to raise the money which must be paid by the end of the month."

"As a Senator, and somebody who's been able to accrue assets down the line, I'll be talking with people who may be able to lend that money and if not, I'll be taking some more adventurous action," he said


I hope and I will prey everyday he fails and is booted out of the Senate. It is high time that he is finally being held accountable for his actions! His litany of frivolous law suits have finally bitten him on the arse! And what does this oh so clever man mean by "adventurous action"? I can't wait to find out because he's such a clever and smart man!

Joel Fitzgibbon Socialist Labor's Stupidist Former Defense Minister!?

Here I go again back in March, 30 March to be exact I wrote about Joel Fitzgibbon in a posting here at this blog titled, "Defence Minister Cozy with Commies? Poor Judgement and a Security Risk?"

And at that time his unusual behaviour and questionable actions as the Defence Minister were under scrutiny and I said, "This a very serious and dangerous breach of our security and Mr. Fitzgibbon should be axed!"

Now the idiot lets his brother into his office to conduct private health related business with other government officials so the brother might land the Defence Forces health contract. Krudd got wind of it and Joel was on his way out and back to the Hunter Valley! But the best part is for last when he blames defence forces personnel and staff in his own office then pleaded his innocence. This rat bag was totally in denial about his disgraceful actions! Another appointment that Krudd has screwed up, showing his lack of good judgement when making important decisions!

Climate Change and The Global Warming Myth Questions of Govt. by Sen. Steve Fielding? FINALLY?

Sen. Steve Fielding asking the right questions to the government regarding Climate Change and the Global Warming Myth! In today's Australian he asked Penny Wong to sit down and please explain?

"Until recently I, like most Australians, simply accepted without question the notion that global warming was a result of increased carbon emissions. However, after speaking to a cross-section of noted scientists, including Ian Plimer, a professor at the University of Adelaide and author of Heaven and Earth, I quickly began to understand that the science on this issue was by no means conclusive. At the conference I attended on Tuesday hosted by the Heartland Institute, I heard views that challenged the Rudd government's set of "facts". Views that could not be dismissed as mere conspiracy theories, but that were derived using proper scientific analysis. The idea that climate change is a result of the variation in solar activity and not related to the increase of CO2 into the atmosphere is not something I can remember ever being discussed in the media. The question of whether global warming is a new phenomenon or something that is just part of the naturally occurring 1500-year climate cycle was never raised in any of the discussions I have had with the Rudd government. Has the government considered these questions, or has it just accepted the one scientific explanation for climate change at face value?"

Thank you Sen. Fielding, this is the key question that the so called Liberal Opposition should have been asking all along. Instead of accepting the flawed Government science and stifling the Nationals objections to it!

Senator McLucas was under formal investigation by the Department of Finance. By stepping down she’s allowed Mr Rudd to clear the decks after the forced resignation of Mr Fitzgibbon on Thursday over conflict of interest charges."

It's about time, I wrote about this poor excuse for a politician. On 6 May 2009, about the charade that Sen. McLucas has foisted on the voters of Queensland (The Arrogant Labor Party? Now it's QLD Sen. Jan McLucas Turn to Vomit on the Voters?). I guess Krudd finally saw the McLucas's con job for what it was, a fraud on the taxpayers and has mercifully ended the rip-off!

The silence is deafening! A cover-up at Council in the cards?

I attended my first press conference yesterday at Cairns Regional Council. The press conference was supposed to report on the contents of the $17,000 investigation into the "Cash for Comments" debacle involving, 4CA's John MacKenzie, CRC CEO Noel Briggs, Communications Mgr. Kerie Hull and the Mayor Val Schier.

Sonja Anderson, Media Coordinator informed the throng that, "Mr, Briggs would read a prepared statement and he would not take any questions." There was much grumbling by the assembled masses. No one was happy about not being able to question the CEO and or view the report in its entirety.

CEO Briggs read the following abridged statement and said:

The main finding:

1. "That I have found the commercial arrangement between Council and Prime Radio 4CA to be appropriate, commercial and in the best interest of Council."

Now I never had an issue with the commercial arrangement between the radio station and the Council. The radio station was just doing business (selling air time). Where I have an issues is:

a. That John MacKenzie the 4CA Radio program host had not informing the listening audience that this was a paid commerical spot paid for by CRC.

b. Why didn't Kerie Hull inform the Mayor of the commercial arrangement with 4CA?

c. And why didn't CEO Noel Briggs (if he knew), inform the Mayor of the commercial arrangement with 4CA?

2. "The independent investigator concluded that the Mayor was not informed of the payment component of the commercial arrangement with 4CA."

Nothing here is new, everyone and their brother knew the Mayor didn't know about the "cash for comments" payments made by the Council, but we do know who did know don't we?

3. "I will now ensure (Briggs) Council takes all necessary steps to deal with allegations concerning a member of staff."

Now this is where this statement gets interesting, the member of staff would I assume to be Keri Hull, why? She the one who made the arrangements with the radio station, but conveniently told no one and acted on here own (hard to believe) without getting monetary authority from the CEO? This CEO is a very hands on guy and from my own experience with him, it's very hard to believe he had no knowledge of the arrangements made by Hull.

My other other issue with this $17,000 investigation is that the CEO Briggs, who is a likely to be involved and an interested party in this matter would control access to the full report, bury the full contents of the report and block all public scrutiny. Mr. Briggs has a definite conflict of interest and should have excused himself entirely in this matter.

This was my first news conference that I have covered as a reporter and you could feel the tension in the air all over city hall. It seemed like some kind of conspiracy was hatched and stench of strain was defiantly in the air. Even people that I knew very well were hesitant to talk or act in civil matter towards me.

I reckon we have a major cover-up going on here and the Local Government Minster Desley Boyle needs to step in and find out what's stinking in Denmark! Because this nonsense of a press conference smelled like a cover-up from beginning to end!

Climate Change Conference - The turth about the Scare!

The Third International Conference on Climate Change will be held in Washington, DC on June 2, 2009 at the Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Avenue NW. It will call attention to widespread dissent to the asserted “consensus” on various aspects of climate change and global warming.

The conference’s theme will be “Climate Change: Scientific Debate and Economic Analysis.” The theme reflects the fact that the scientific debate is not over and that economic analysis is more important than ever, now that legislation is being seriously considered. The real science and economics of climate change support the view that global warming is not a crisis and that immediate action to reduce emissions is not necessary. This is, in fact, the emerging consensus view of scientists outside the IPCC and most economists outside environmental advocacy groups.

Northern Truth on the air! A Smash Hit?

This morning at 7:35 AM Mike Moore at Cairnsblog.net and I kicked off the first of many appearances of the "Blog Boys" on Mike "Locco's" O'Loughlin's show on radio station 4CA 846 AM. It was an exciting fast paced show this morning and "Locco" wants all our shows to stay in that vein.

We discussed three topics, Swine Flu aka Swan Flu, Dr. Philip Nitschke and my favorite of the three topics my good Mate Sol Trujilio.

Also at the studio this morning was Cairns Chamber of Commerce President Jeremy Blockey. He was the next guess up after our show!
