What exactly does autonomy mean? Autonomy means freedom from external authority. Well if that is what the People's Movement for Torres Strait Autonomy means and wants, then I'm all for it. But I would expect them not to ask for handouts or any money from the Australian federal government or the Queensland State government. If you want to have autonomy do it on your own and not with handouts from others. Don't expect the rest of Australia to supply you at no charge with food, power, petrol, medical support, law enforcement, courts, prisons or all the myriad of other freebies and services your receive for free now at a very great expense to the Australian and Queensland governments.
But we know this is just sheep bleating with the help and stirring of Father Getano Lui Jr. We need to know about the good Father and his motives and background, because he certainly has all the revolutionary vocabulary down pat. Here this loud and clear TSI revolutionaries, Australia will never allow such a strategic area full autonomy as the Torres Straits under, a novice government would put all Australians in serous jeopardy.
But I love how the Left always quotes the UN: "Under the United Nations' charter, the sovereign state must assist."
And it gets better, Father Lui was told by a PNG Delegate, "They equate our struggle with that of PNG's fight for independence from Australia." And you know how well that has gone, Australia is still pumping millions of dollars every year into a vast economic wasteland since the '70's and it looks like that aid will never end.
I say do it the easy way, if the Torres Strait Islander don't like Australia then I suggest they all pack there bags move to PNG. Because they have two chances to gain autonomy and that's slim and none!
And that's The Northern Truth!!
