In this morning Cairns Post, "Cash for Comment" in extra large bold print on the front page. Apparently the Cairns Regional Council (CRC) is paying for the Mayor to appear on 4CA 846AM every Friday morning. But, what's truly interesting is the CEO, Mayor, Council and everyone else at City Hall had no idea? The manager at 4CA Steve Hirst said, "I was contacted by Council to arrange to get Val on the radio. There is nothing that the council didn't know about it."
I reckon there is more to this story than it appears on the surface and the true facts should flush out soon. But if these allegations are true, this could be political poison to the Mayor and who do you think will benefit (politically) the most by it?
What is truly bizarre about this whole matter is the former mayor Kevin (KB) Byrnes (Pictured) sticks his two cents into this matter and to my surprise (Not), he says, "We never paid, I never did and I did it for 10 years." Well Kev you might have gone on to explain why and your exact special relationship to the shows host?

Lance, you and I may be politically at different ends on many issues (even hugging trees) but I'm delighted to see that we both have a strong desire to create open dialogue about these issues.
I noted that you supported Councillor Forsyth's right to protest, which doesn't necessarily mean you support what she was protesting about - an important and distinct difference.
Blogs are now eating the pants off mainstream newspapers and radio, as we have no obligation to soften the news or follow certain lines due to commercial pressures.
While I have no problem if a commercial (read financial) arrangement was made between Council and getting Councillors and the Mayor on air, it's a shocking situation that this was not declared to those that were to appear on that two-bit radio show.
Blogs like yours and mine, provide an important and valuable link in the jigsaw to tell the full story about these dodgy local political events.

The Communications Manager was told by Briggs who was told by Mayor Val and her group of "advisors" to "get her on air."
So Kerrie did what she's paid to do, and ... Val's back on air.
$250.00 a week, who cares ???
That's what Council pays some "consultants" per hour to advise on stuff like ... "corporate well being" or "how to be a Manager after you were given the job".
Quickie: The Mayor should not have to pay to be on the radio and the whole matter stinks to high heaven and I strongly disagree with you, the CEO's stench is on this whole debacle and it looks like a conspiracy to undermine the mayor and make her look bad!
