Ramos-Horta calls for more Australian aid

The President of East Timor says his country is vulnerable to becoming a staging ground for people smugglers unless the Australian Government does more to help Timor's maritime police.

Jose Ramos Horta made an address to the NT Parliament last night.

During his speech, he said his country's 'weak and small' maritime police force recently stopped two people smuggling boats that were headed for Australia and New Zealand.

He says the Timor Sea is vulnerable to illicit operations unless more help is given.

"Timor Leste alone or with only modest assistance from Australia will not be able to defend itself and to uphold its responsibilities to its neighbours."

During the speech, President Ramos Horta hit out at negative reports about his country's progress, saying they're exaggerated and over simplified.

He says reports of a divide, and tensions between the east and west of his country, have been blown out of proportion

"I believe I have a good degree of understanding of the nature of the conflict, somewhat better than those who pay short visits and write up fancy academic papers or newspaper articles, mostly for casting dooms day scenarios for our nascent and vibrant democracy."

The East Timorese President also questioned why Darwin residents don't visit his country more, saying Dili is safer than many other cities in the region.

He says UN police studies show in some areas Dili rates, well compared to other regional cities

"Timor Leste, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, crime rate in Timor Leste, homicide is far far lower than any city in the region.

"Compared with Darwin for instance in Dili, we don't have dangerous crocodiles."

My take on this report:

First, I didn't realise that the NT made foreign policy for Australia. Second no one wants to visit Timor because it is ugly, overrun with street crime and third there is nothing to do once you get there!

Ramos-Horta stands in line with KRudd, both pushing and shoving to be the future Secretary General of United Nations and in the mean time both morons are scuttling their prospective countries! Ramos-Horta has totally lost touch with reality and had the hide to criticise the Australian Army for not catching his assassins! I GUESS THEY WERE TO BUSY SAVING YOUR WORTHLESS LIFE, YOU MORON!!!! Then he is flown to Darwin for emergency medical care for three months that we the Australian people pay for and is still bitching.

Moron stand on your own two feet and don't worry about the UN. If you can't run that sewer of a country how do you expect to run the UN? Well on second thought the UN is so corrupt and such a lost cause he & KRudd should fit in just fine!

"Senior LNP MP Tim Nicholls says it is wrong for candidates to personally insult Government MPs.

Mr Nicholls says the LNP team will be told how to behave in a campaign.

"The candidate for Barron River has offered an apology, which is appropriate, and I'm sure that all candidates will be reminded of the appropriate way to go about addressing the issues," he said.

"We're about fighting the next election on policies, not on personalities."

My take on LNP Member for Clayfield's statement:

I find it ironic and I have to laugh that the Member for Clayfield AKA "The Mouth" whose modus operandi is intimidation and personal abuse ( I was once the target of his abuse) has the audacity to tell Wendy Richardson what is appropriate behaviour for LNP candidates. I totally disagree if this is the actual LNP campaign strategy. What Labor has done to this State is personal and the attacks should be directed at the individuals responsible for the carnage. If The LNP wants to lose another election then they should follow the Member for Clayfield misguided plan!

You all must remember this guy's mentor is the infamous former Liberal Senator SS who wrote the book on smear and innuendo. The Member for Clayfield lead the revolt twice against MP Bruce Flegg, and as I remember he made it real personal against Bruce!

The LNP is apparently using the head banger Member for Clayfield as a spokesperson for moderation, you have to be kidding! The LNP must be short on spokespersons with integrity if this is the best they can produce to front the media?

Federal Government backflip on Iran court case from AJN 15-10-08

"THE Federal Government announced on Wednesday that it will not pursue legal action against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

During last year’s election campaign, the Labour Party said that it hoped to pursue Ahmadinejad on charges of inciting genocide, but Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said the Government has decided against legal action.

The Government had said it would prosecute Ahmadinejad based on his ongoing anti-Semitic diatribe.

Smith condemned Ahmadinejad’s comments, saying the Government was “appalled” with statements the Iranian president made in New York last month.

However, he said that “exhaustive consideration” had been given to the proposition of legal action, but it had been rejected because of its “complexity” and because it would give “further profile to these obscene remarks”.

At the same time, Smith announced that Australia would follow the European Union in ramping up sanctions against Iran.

From Wednesday, Australia has imposed travel sanctions and economic sanctions, which are additional to those imposed by the United Nations Security Council. Those sanctions follow the lead of the European Union.

Smith said that 20 individuals and 18 organisations, including two Iranian banks, would be affected by the strengthened sanctions.

He also announced that Australia will not provide any additional financial support to improve trade between the two countries.

Nationals leader Warren Truss expressed the Coalition’s support for the sanctions, but warned against causing too much damage to the two countries’ trade partnership.

He also criticised the Government’s “bravado”, with regards to its failed plan to prosecute Ahmadinejad.

“I caution against bravado when there is no capacity to deliver what is behind those statements,” Truss said."

Extreme Capitalism and more from K.Rudd?

The PM spoke yesterday about the world financial meltdown and the phrase "Extreme Capitalism" crept into the PM's speech. Now he had me onside until the phrase was uttered and at that point he lost me. Isn't the PM, the PM for all Australians not just the Green/Labor Left in our country? Are these statements uniting the cause against corporate greed or as usual brings in ideology into the debate were it doesn't belong? Haven't we heard the "Extreme" rant from the Labor Party and the unions before? I think we did at the last federal election under the guise of "Extreme Workplace Relations" dogma.

Listen it's very basic stuff, you scratch a lefty and what do you really get? They appear to be very moderate and concerned about people, fairness, inclusion and the free market democracy, but they deeply believe in telling us what to believe, social engineering of are life's and the joy of brutal totalitarian Communist dogma. Now you all know how well that worked in the Soviet Union. But this is the same crowd that has brought you the Global Warming Myth and Anti- Globalisation demonstrations and riots. They seem moderate and concerned, but the goal is to enslave you to the totalitarian dogma.

Wendy Richardson Slaps Down Steve's "Wet'no'Balls"!!

In today's Cairns Post, Wendy went after the "silent one" or Brisbane's representative in Cairns Stevie Wettenhall or now better know as 'wetn no balls'. "She launches a stinging attack on sitting Labor MP Steve Wettenhall and refers to Premier Anna Bligh as "Jack Boots Anna".

Good on you Wendy, Stevie has done nothing for the Far North nor Barron River, but toe the Labor Party line. His inaction has seen the demise of the base hospital here in Cairns, the Yacht Club and has added to Labor's increased neglect of the North!

Your leadership has never been questioned by the "Northern Truth", now you need to stay focused go for the throat and retire 'wetn no balls' back to his socialist law practice!

The QLD LNP Pre-Selection a Farce in FNQ !!!!

Last night the LNP in FNQ had the State candidate pre-selection and did a great job choosing excellent candidates for the State Seats of Cairns, Barron River and Mulgrave. The only problem that I have is that not all Party members were contacted or informed that the pre-selection was on. I have been told that everything has been so rush, rush and it's just too bad the process seems to have been corrupted, But the LNP in Brisbane has apparently decided that the constitutional process is all together to difficult to work with and the membership be dammed! Sounds familiar doesn't it?
